It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. ECW had finally gotten national television, which was huge. However...it was on The Nashville Network, aka TNN, aka one of the sh*ttiest networks on 90s TV. While Cyrus started as an announcer, he soon turned on ECW and joined The Network. It was kinda a worked shoot, as ECW and TNN really were at odds over violence and sexual content. Cyrus would plug TNN's braindead shows such as RollerJam and Rockin' Bowl on ECW air. He assembled a stable including Tajiri, Rhino, and Steve Corino in his crusade against hardcore wrestling. This culminated in Cyrus losing a match against poet/announcer Joel Gertner at Anarchy Rulz 2000. It was Cyrus who had the last laugh, as shortly after he managed Rhino's ECW World Heavyweight Championship win at Guilty as Charged 2001 ECW declared bankruptcy. Today as Don Callis he does color commentary for the New Japan World streaming service.
