Your suggestion is exactly what I was thinking. If it wasn't for the signs, machines, and containers, I could make the whole ship disappear like I did with my jet in the hangar. LOL
Although I'd simplify the process and simply make the sensor (to detect only players) cover the area of the ladder/ramp entrance of the vessel and it's nearby vicinity. And that would simply send an order to an inverter gate . And voilá, whenever player(s) is(are) nearby it tells it to make the ladder/ramp visible.
