D8 class Heavy Cruiser

After several pirate vessels were found with alien technology, Starfleet determined that an outside force was responsible, and launched a project to find them. Thsi came to frutition only 3 weeks after, as the USS Enterprise encountered the first D8 class cruiser. The D8, from the limited scans that were took, was determined to be a massive threat, prompting several upgrades, and even bringing out the old Federation class of dreadnought, which while outdated by almost 50 years, provided superior firepower, even to the Enterprise class. however, after examination of an abandond D8, it was determined that, although the missile armaments themselves were dangerous (they were even thought to be drone ships), the overall specs were such that the Enterprise class were enough of a match to give it the edge, thus putting the Federation class into final retirement.
