Polaris 'Northstar' Fighter

Description
The PT-M06 'Northstar' Fighter, Codenamed [POLARIS] during its internal development phase, was originally a standard fighter-escort for load-bearing frigates and cruisers, designed as a cheap, affordable means of protecting and fending off any harrasing interceptors, bombers, and other fighters.

'Was', being the key word.

After the first initial development phases of the Northstar, CEO's of Sol-Arms, a Subsidiary of the popular terran conglomerate, Sol-Corp, contacted the leading engineers to inform them of a radical change in development requirements. A pressing need for a strong, reliable fighter that could deliver crippling payloads to ships hundreds of tonnes greater than it had circled the market, and the development of [POLARIS] had shifted towards making a balanced Fighter-Bomber. The new design, coded the PT-M02 [Production Type Mark Two] Northstar, was deemed suitable for its purposes, and prepared for deployment in standard shipyards.

Again, Sol-Arms CEO's had informed the Development teams of a another radical shift in the market, demanding a long-range recon ship, which could ply space lanes ahead of convoys, flotillas, and even military fleets - to inform and tag enemy vessels and hazards accordingly. The power supply of the Northstar had been upgraded to six reactor modules, alongside three power-storage modules, to compensate for the increased requirements of the scanning system and laser antennae, alongside the heavy engines, weapons, and life support systems.

Eventually, through six redesigns of the vessel, each to meet a new demand in the marketplace, the PT-M06 'Northstar' Modular Vessel had been completed. With the speed of an interceptor, the armaments of a heavy bomber, sensor equipment of a patrol craft, and the original chasis of a expendable fighter, the 'Northstar' became a hybrid vehicle, able to fit in any roll, but excell at none. The heavy cost, light armor, and power requirements made the PT-M06 an expensive choice for any buyer, but its utility has seen a rise in purchases among Defense forces, Private Companies, and a few aftermarket models have been seen in use by Pirate Forces.
