Akula class Destroyer

The Akula class was the first purpose built Destroyer of Starfleet, and by using over 90% of the Enterprise class's components, she maintained a high degree of both cost efficent design, as well as reliability. Her armaments were about on par with the cruiser, with only a few less millile tubes, but heavy enough to pose a substantial threat against enemy ships. They were branched off of PROJECT SALADIN, which had its origins while the Enterprise class was still on the drawing board.
