This article mentions several possibilities as to who the French Masked Wrestler was. But from what I've found it seems to most likely be Bauer.

Great foot note. I always heard of they're being a masked wrestler in France as well. I'd love to track him down. I might do some digging.

I have read a few times where Thiebaud Bauer was the first masked wrestler when he was still in France. I don't know that for sure obviously Lol
