Jade++ [B18]

Description
This simple XML-based mod improves jade, and adds a floor made of jade.

It felt odd that the game describes jade as a "hard stone" but in vanilla gives it structural qualities similar to wood, so this fixes that.

Specifically:
  • It buffs jade's HP modifier from 0.5 to 1.6; that's slightly better than limestone but worse than granite.
  • It debuffs jade's door-opening speed from default (100%) to 50%, slightly better than the 45% of vanilla stone types.
  • It buffs jade's flammability from 20% to 0%, like vanilla stone types.

The mod also adds a "polished jade slab" floor. It requires 5 jade per tile, no research, and has 3 beauty, like the other smoothed stone floors.

I'm not quite happy with the floor texture, so expect some minor tweaks at some point.

This mod should be safe to add to saves, but not safe to remove unless you remove from your save all of the jade flooring (and blueprints thereof) that it adds. I don't foresee any specific compatibility problems, but it might conflict with other mods that modify jade. If you find a compatibility problem, let me know and I'll try to fix it.

While its position in the load order shouldn't matter significantly, I recommend loading it earlier rather than later.

This mod is also available for A17.

Any chance of an update to 1.0? Rimworld is no longer in alpha or beta.

Nice. Much prefer the tiled approach to the green oleo spill of vanilla.

@Meat Man (Alfons): You're right. I haven't played RimWorld in a bit and didn't notice. I'll push an update sometime to match the floor nerf; keeping it at the same beauty as silver seems reasonably fair. I could also just increase its cost, or require it to be smoothed along the way, but I'm leaning against those options for the time being.

Well, Smooth stone was nerfed in the previous update where it only gives 2 beauty. So this makes Jade better than smooth stone.

Thank you for this-- I had an abundance of Jade and desperately needed holes in walls patched. Had my "Aha!" moment followed immediately by the "Wtf?" as I realise too late that vanilla jade is made of green butter.

I suppose that's a fair point. Thanks for your time.

@PolyJohn It's possible, but I won't do it for balance reasons. The jade floor is already a very good deal for beauty vs. cost: at market value it costs 25 silver worth of jade per tile compared to 85 silver per for 2-beauty silver tile or 850 silver per 4-beauty gold tile. While it has equal beauty to smoothed stone, it can be placed anywhere, while smooth stone can't be places where rough stone has never existed (without another mod, at least).

Some of this is a consequence of the way vanilla's balance choices work; there's a shallow curve for floor beauty and I tried to fit it within those. I *could* in theory patch vanilla's beauty values, but IMO that's beyond the scope of this mod. If you have another mod that patches floor beauty values, you can encourage its author to add a conditional patch (possible in pure XML) for this mod if it's loaded before that one.

Would it be possible to buff the beauty to 4 or 5? Jade is quite beaitful in comparison to other stone types, and more importantly it's considerably more rare and expensive, I don't want to waste it on floors that' aren't mechnically better than just smoothing a stone floor.

Apparently the stable is not "A18" but rather "B18". I've updated the Steam title but it'll still show up in the in-game modlist as "A18" until I push an update.
