Description
Era - Late 1890s / 1900s - Boxing - Heavyweight

An exceptional overall athlete, James Jefferies was one of the great dominant champions in the history of heavyweight boxing. Known as the Boilermaker for his previous terms of employment, Jeffries had a crushing left hand and an aggressive style that led him to knock out formidable opponents such as Peter Jackson, Bob Fitzsimmons and James J. Corbett, retiring with the title in hand. Jeffries might be best known today, however for having come back after six years to face the Galveston Giant, Jack Johnson, in an unfortunate attempt to serve as a "white hope," an endeavor which was thwarted by Johnson in a dominant performance.
