The American Dream is an ideal held to by millions of working class people, who want to provide for their families and live a comfortable life earned through hard work. Such an ideal deserved a hard fighting champion, and in the world of pro wrestling, Dusty Rhodes managed to embody it to the point that he became known by the phrase.

Rhodes started out from the bottom, managing to work his way up the ranks the hard way, and eventually managed to make a name for himself around the National Wrestling Alliance. A memorable team with ♥♥♥♥ Murdoch as the Texas Outlaws gave him a series of championships, but it would be his run in the Mid-Atlantic territory that would earn him lasting fame.

Rhodes teamed with Magnum T.A. and feuded with the Four Horsemen, mesmerizing crowds with his brilliant promos and bloody brawls, and moving with the agility of a man half his size. Eventually, he would also wrestle with the WWF, wearing an infamous set of polka dot trunks and a feud with the Macho Man Randy Savage.
