Description
The Northrop XP-56 "Black Bullet" was an American fighter-interceptor prototype built in 1943, though the ideas for this strange aircraft date back to 1939. Its unusual flying wing design and small fuselage were to have reduced aerodynamic drag, improving performance. The design proved to be unstable, with one of its two prototypes crashing, and numerous problems noted in the second. Due to this, and the development of jet powered aircraft, the XP 56 project was abandoned.
