[Fighter Blueprint] Vaygr Lance Fighter [Homeworld 2]

Used by the warriors of the Vaygr Reaches, the 'Harridan' Lance Fighter* caries a single, forward-mounted plasma lance. Though the plasma lance bears similarity in appearance and role to the Hiigaran pulsar cannon (which is based on ion cannon technology), it is more closely related to plasma bomb launcher technology. When fired, it emits streams of charged particles in extremely rapid pulses. While each individual pulse does little damage, the weapon has an impressive rate of fire.

Though it is built on the same chassis as the nimble Assault Craft, the power draw from the plasma lance makes the Lance Fighter a bit less maneuverable. It cannot reliably dogfight other fighters, but it does an admirable job of punching through the heavier and slower corvette-class vessels. Unfortunately, capital ship armor does a much better job at absorbing the Harridan's punches. Even frigate-class vessels generally don't have a difficult time shrugging off all but overwhelming numbers of lance beams, pretty much limiting the role of the Lance Fighter to that of a dedicated corvette killer and occassional second-rate bomber.

Despite having a fairly small niche, however, the Lance Fighter saw frequent use in the war between the Vaygr and Hiigarans. It was often deployed accompanying squadrons of Assault Craft and Bombers, who appreciated its ability to knock out one of their most common counters - the Hiigaran Gunship.

This build of the Vaygr Lance Fighter is based on its appearance in Homeworld 2. It is exactly 200 blocks. I was planning to do the Somtaaw Acolyte as my next Homeworld fighter after the Assault Craft, but then I realized that since all four of the Vaygr fighters share the same basic cockpit design and since the build is still fresh in my mind, I think I will finish these first.

Screenshots (besides the auto-generated preview image) show fighters at true scale - when you use this blueprint to produce fighters, that's the level of detail you can expect from the final product.

This ship is intended for use as a fighter blueprint, as it lacks the critical ship components necessary for player control.

*The 'Harridan' Lance Fighter is one of the only Homeworld 2 era ships whose class name was ever revealed.
