Era - 1980s - WWF

Known best today for his outrageous claims to break backs and make men humble, the Iron Sheik was once a top tier competitor, a legit Greco-Roman gold medalist in the Olympics and a WWF World Heavyweight champion.

The Iron Sheik started out in the AWA, but truly made his name elsewhere, and won the WWF title in 1983. Sheik would also form a formidible team with Nikolai Volkoff, calling themselves the Foriegn Legion and winning the tag titles. The two were known for proclaiming their allegiance with America's foes, Volkoff singing the Soviet national anthem while Shiek shouted "Iran Number One! Russian Number one! America, ptah!"
