[Fighter Blueprint] Vaygr Bomber [Homeworld 2]

The Vaygr Bomber is a fighter-class vessel used by the warriors of the Vaygr Reaches. Wielding a pair of side-mounted plasma bomb launchers, the Bomber packs a tremendous punch into a small package. While the Bomber is slower than some other Vaygr fighters like the Assault Craft, it has more than enough speed to evade heavy capital ship weapons and maneuver into optimal position for bombing runs. Typically deployed in squadrons of six, Bombers are sent out to hunt enemy frigates and harass larger enemy capital ships. Plasma bombs are extremely effective against capital ship armor and subsystems - even a small group of Bombers can cripple a large capital ship by directing fire towards engines, weapons, production bays, or hyperspace modules.

Despite their impressive firepower, however, Bombers must be wary of their counters. Enemy interceptors and dedicated anti-fighter corvettes shred them easily, as their plasma bombs are too slow to reliably hit anything smaller than a frigate. For this reason, Vaygr Bombers are usually deployed in tandem with Assault Craft and Lance Fighters to cover these weaknesses.

During the war between the Hiigarans and the Vaygr warlord Makaan's fleet, mixed squadrons of Bombers, Assault Craft, and Lance Fighters proved themselves to be a deadly and versatile combination. The Hiigarans relied heavily on the Flak Frigate to counter these mixed fighter groups, as a capital ship formation lacking a dedicated anti-fighter escort could quickly see itself crippled and torn apart by Vaygr Bombers.

This build of the Vaygr Bomber is based on its appearance in Homeworld 2. It is exactly 200 blocks. I struggled against the block limit a bit with this one, as it's actually got quite a bit more geometry than the Assault Craft, but I think it turned out alright in the end. I kept wanting to make the launchers on the sides bigger, but then glancing back at my reference images and thinking they were actually okay. This is the last of the Vaygr fighters - the Somtaaw Acolyte will be my next Homeworld build (though I will probably do another X build first).

Screenshots (besides the auto-generated preview image) show fighters at true scale - when you use this blueprint to produce fighters, that's the level of detail you can expect from the final product.

This ship is intended for use as a fighter blueprint, as it lacks the critical ship components necessary for player control.
