Chinese Blades

Description
This mod replaces the Chinese attachments with historical weapons. The Chinese sword now randomly uses either a Jian or a Jiuhuandao. The Chinese Cataphract unit uses a Guandao for the bronze and iron upgrades.

The jiuhuandao is a modern interpretation of the traditional Chinese dao sword (of numerous variations) which is used for wushu and ceremony but is not particularly historical. I selected this variant to differentiate it from the Jian - Han Dynasty and earlier dao swords were single-edged and straight making it hard to distinguish it from the jian in-game.

The guandao polearm is also not exactly historical. According to legend, it was invented by Guan Yu in the 3rd century AD although this is likely a fabrication of the Ming Dynasty over a millennium later. It's size and weight were of mythical proportions. It's design is probably based on the podao, a traditional Chinese infantry weapon used against cavalry similar to a Japanese naginata. While ancient Chinese cavalry certainly would not have used a guandao, it is a mythological weapon and this is Age of Mythology so...

Thanks for clearing that up.

By "not multiplayer compatible", do you mean that it has no effect in MP or that MP just won't start up when this is installed?

@slayer - I have no idea.

@mrifilatojr - actually that looks pretty close to what FE did for the Pangu titan. I can see about possibly giving him an axe though.

when is the expanded mod coming out?

Thanks for the reply! Honestly I'd love to see what you make with your personal art style. Maybe give him an asthetic axe? In the tales he is wielding one. His animations are the same as the Norse titan who happens to be making use of a massive warhammer. He really needs a lot of work done to his face and body. He looks silly.

"Pangu is usually depicted as a primitive, hairy giant who has horns on his head and wears fur. Pangu began creating the world: he separated Yin from Yang with a swing of his giant axe, creating the Earth (murky Yin) and the Sky (clear Yang). This is a good depiction of him: http://www.ancient-origins.net/sites/default/files/field/image/Pangu.jpg

I'm not going to make the decision where to train those units and what techs you need to do so. You can easily make that decision for yourself though for any units/object in the UMC. Or you can wait for Expanded Mod to come out where LightningStorm has already made those decisions for you.

well to actually train in game cataphract for greeks phalanx for greeks golem goes to greeks to train if you could do such a thing?
Callistonian  [author] 24 Nov, 2017 @ 12:33pm
The Golem is already in the game and made accessible through the editor if you subscribe to UMC High Priority. The Greek Cataphract has always been accessible through the editor. The Greek Phalanx was a mod made by someone (not bronyking iirc) and it was included in UMC Ancient Unit Pack along with two other phalanx units.

how about beta units like the golem or greek cataphract greek phalanx or other units made by bronyking
