As one half of the Rock and Roll Express, Robert Gibson helped usher in the modern age of tag team competition. While Ricky Morton would stay in the ring for extended periods, holding off both opponents, Gibson would tag in and shift the momentum of the match.

The Express would find themselves feuding with the likes of Jim Cornette's Midnight Express in a landmark feud that would continue for many years, and even through membership changes in the Midnights. They would also take on the Four Horsemen, and defend their Tag Team championship against them.
