Minor quibbles:
The starting cash is sufficient to pay off the loan and satisfy that gold objective immediately. Then take out loans as needed. I had the 50K loan outstanding when I completed the scenario.
NASA pictures from the Mars rovers show that the surface has an orange tint, but not the exaggerated color that PC uses. Using a custom biome and blending orange sand with tan dirt for ground cover would give a closer approximation to Mars' surface. The terrain smooth tool set with a wide radius and low intensity is ideal for blending terrain brushes.
I spent a lot of time blending terrain brushes with my most recent scenario, which takes place in a swamp. I was pleased with results and I would encourage other scenario developers to experiment with this aspect of the game - it adds a nice extra touch.
