Description
Era - 1990s / 2000s - Boxing - Heavyweight

A Bronze Medalist in the 1984 Olympics and a Cruiserweight title holder, Evander Holyfield moved up to Heavyweight at the end of the 1980s, and quickly earned a shot at the title. Holyfield's excellent technical qualities often fell short of his warrior's heart, able to outbox, but willing to trade blows with his opponents. These qualities would serve him well when he faced Buster Douglas to earn the championship in 1990, and he defended against a solid series of opponents.

Eventually Riddick Bowe would take the title off Holyfield, only for the Real Deal to regain it in a bizarre fight that included a man parachuting into the ringside area.

After a series of fights, Holyfield faced one of his most notorious foes in Mike Tyson, and came up victorious in their first fight. The second fight became a pop culture phenomenon as Tyson proceeded to retaliate from Holyfield's tendency to butt heads by biting a piece of his ear off, naturally losing by disqualification.

Holyfield would proceed to fight the great Lennox Lewis, have three fights with John Ruiz and remained an imposing challenge well into the 2000s.
