check transparent surfaces.... those can also add up when a lot of them are stacked on top of each other (=more transparency render passes for your gpu).

That's weird, I got rid of a bunch of particles and it worked fine for me, I'll try getting rid of some more

The beginning is a massive frame killer. all the way down to single digits. right after I clear the first checkpoint it clears up.
