Dory Spear Mod

This mod replaces the Greek hoplite "rectangle spear" with a historical dory spear.

The dory was the characteristic weapon of the ancient hoplite. Used throughout the Hellenistic world, the dory was a one-handed spear designed to be weilded in tight formation although they were also weighted to be thrown. The dory had a tipped counterweight at the base end known as a sauroter or "lizard killer" which could be used as a secondary weapon. The dory was longer than most conteporary spears making it particularly deadly when used in tight formations.

There is much debate as to how the dory was used in ancient warfare. There is ample red-figure evidence that it was sometimes used overhand, perhaps even by allowing the spear to slide under its own momentum into a target. However, overhand use would require the soldier to switch grips with only one hand (as the spear was carried point up) and would make using the sauroter impossible. Underhand use would have provided greater reach probably at the cost of power and predictability (it is possible to hide the spearpoint behind the hoplon before thrusting using an overhand grip although it is not know if this was actually done).
