Mina is a summoned companion
you can find a ring in "Bleak Falls Barrow" that will summon her when equipped
she is not set essential, but her health is high enough that she will not die in combat
she uses powerful magic and has perks to back this up, in combat she likes to summon her "Zombie" and blast the enemy with lightning bolts

Mina's zombie attacks with his clawed hands and can vomit "poison puke" at ranged enemies
