First of all want to thank The_Moshpit for help in stabilizing this drill, it was drilling and flying good but was a bit jumpy, from the changes that The_Moshpit made I would say it was hyperactive before! The initial goal for this series of drills was the ability to turn around in the tunnels it had drilled, I hate getting stuck and having to drive backwards out of the hole I just drilled! With the minerals now being spread out/around this is now an extra valuable ability!
Recently added enough thrust to power straight up a verticle mine shaft, even on planets like Aitis with a 1.2 gravity level. If needed this drill can do this in reverse on planets like Akua. Has good side thrust for that extra little shove to dodge occasional incoming fire also.
Speaking of incoming fire, while not designed for combat the outer shell is hardened steel, it can take a few rounds without any real problems, at least from drones or POI, not tested in PvP so your on your own there!
There is enough room between the drills to add a harvester if you want, to date I have not found much use for wood, but with the new mods to building ammo that will likely be an addition I keep on the unit.
I dont use the drill turrets much but there is certainly room on the roof for one, or add an ammo container (there is room above the ventilator) and throw a normal turret up there for hunting or drone killing.
This version also has a nice view from the cockpit when drilling, so 1st or 3rd person view is fairly interchangeable. I do most of my drilling in 3rd person, but there are times when the graphics dont work so well that way, and with this version I simply switch to 1st person and good to go!
