Description
Era - 1940s / 1960s - Boxing - Middleweight

Considered by many to be the pound for pound greatest of all time, Ray Robinson was the first fighter to be described to be "sweet as sugar" in the ring, an appellation later to be strived after by other greats wishing to connect with Robinson's undisputed excellence

Robinson was nearly undefeatable at Welterweight through the 1940s, pausing for over a year during WW II while he served in the military, performing exhibition bouts. Robinson's one loss in this phase of his career was against the Raging Bull, Jake LaMotta, his eternal rival, racking up over a hundred and twenty wins and gaining the Middleweight title of the world before his next loss.

While Robinson's star shone as bright as a supernova in his absolute prime, he would achieve longevity to go along with his quality, engaging in fierce battles with the likes of Gene Fullmer and Carmen Basilio late in the 50s.

Robinson was a perfectly balanced fighter, able to fight at all ranges, put together deadly combinations and defend with a deft touch.
