Description
Era - 1970s / 1990s - Boxing - Middleweight

One of the most accomplished amateur boxers of his generation, or any, and an Olympic hero with a Gold Medal in 1976, Sugar Ray Leonard became one of the defining figures of the 1980s, fighting a series of greats and winning an array of titles in the process.

Leonard's fights with Roberto Duran were the stuff of legend. In their first meeting, Duran baited Leonard into his world: a head to head brawl, one which cost Leonard his first professional loss. However, Leonard would come back in their rematch, this time making Duran deal with his technical skill, and eventually, the man with the Hands of Stone would surrender with the utterance of "No Mas."

Sugar Ray would continue on to earn classic victories over the likes of Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler, retiring and returning multiple times, and while he may have done so one too many times, few can deny that at his best, Leonard was truly an all-time great. His mix of blistering combination punching, blinding footwork and grit would serve him well time and time again.
