Phantom class Frigate

I have made several Mass effect ships. They are in the Complete Collection above. One day I would like to make a race set for all races I have made, when I get enough ship classes. At the moment I am slowly working on Battlestar (Colonial) then Cylons will be next. While I design a few random ships in the process and fight off bugs. Also creating an ambitious map. These are still hopeful things, I do get horribly side tracked at the best of times....oh shiny!

Ever thought of doing a mass effect ship line?

Ok cool, thanks for the insight. One of my favorite aspects of this game is the customizability and the artistic space design. Your designs are great, keep up the good ship art!

Normally it will take me ruffly 3 hours to finish. There are several factors which can take longer or shorter. These could be if I have a sketch (yes I do sketch about 40% of my ship designs) or I am working on an existing ship such as star wars or trek etc (Sketching a design is always helpful and those I have sketch are easier and better built. I highly recommend sketching often). This usually speeds up the time taken but not always.

Some ships can just be difficult and no matter what you do, it just doesnt look right. The designs that give you trouble I save as test ships and come back to them later. I will also only upload about 80% of my designs.

I also like to just jump in cold and see what I come up with. Some times, everything falls into place quickly and others, it takes trail an error. The ship above was a jump in cold design which came together quickly. It took about 2 hours.

How long does it normally take you to design new ships? Sometimes I sit down and play around with the ship designer, but a lot of times it's hard to think of a new and original design. Do you ever sketch out your ships before you go into the designer?
