[ES] Require Infirmary for Births

[ES Collection] ErrantSword Mods: Surviving Mars
27 items
Description
This Mod ensures that (under normal conditions) Colonists will only give Birth in Domes with an Infirmary or Medical Centre. This allows more direct control of which Colonists give Birth.

It does so by raising the default Comfort Requirement from 70 to 100, then changing the Comfort Requirement Decrease of the Infirmary from 15 to 45. The result is that a Dome with an Infirmary requires 55 Comfort for Births (as in the base game), but that one without needs a Comfort of 100.

The Mod only effects new games started with it enabled. It will not effect previously saved games. It is fully compatible with my Birth Comfort and Birth Rate Mods (noting that these will alter the stats quoted above).

They did the same mistake a few years back at the Olympics in Canada..... all the first help posts had swiss flags :) :) :)

I'm now back (from Honeymoon!) and have just updated almost all of my Surviving Mars Mods for you guys. This one should now be working again! If there are any issues, please let me know.

@Smoking_Joe - I haven't made any Mods to the graphics, just re-used the game files. I'm unsure why they reveresed the colours of the flags. Here i nthe UK, we use white/green for First Aid anyway!

Why do you use a Swiss flag here ? The Red Cross is, as the name says, a red cross on white ground. A white cross on red ground is the swiss flag :P

Ah ok. Reason I asked is that I'm still struggling with population explosions even after they added birth control. I started a new game and the first breakthrough I got was the one that allows seniors to work and have kids and skip retirement. I know a waiting list for births isn't that realistic, but neither is going from zero children to 100+ in two Sols or less! You'd think people would hold off on having kids if the alternative is suffocation or starvation, but nope. Reminds me of the catsplosions I used to get in Dwarf Fortress.

Thanks guys!

@Tamren - I suspect such a Mod could be built, but would rely heavily on signifcant code, rather than tweakign of existing in-game values (sadly beyond my currrent ability).

Also, there'd be a slight realism issue / loss of challenge to my mind. Essentially, people would only be allowed to get pregnant if there was a vacant slot. In fact, they'd have to get soem sort of permit, or have a waiting list. They'd then wait 9 months (probably only a Sol in game terms) for the kid to be born. Nature (and people) just... don't work that way ;)

This mod is great but not quite what I'm looking for. Do you think you could make a mod that caps births if adding more people would exceed the capacity of all non-nursery housing? That way the colony would naturally fill all available space and replace seniors without agonizing micromanagement.

great work ES, this is definitely something that should have already been included in the vanilla features.

Ha! I totally read over that :) Thanks for the response and I'll give this one a go in the next playthrough

"bonomel - Yes, as per the Description it also effects the Medical Centre. The effect isn't tied to the individual Builidngs at all, but to Dome Stats and Medical Building class
