The Dark Tech Society

Description
HaTsUnE_NeKo is now maintaining all of my Kenshi mods. Due to issues with updating existing mods as a contributor, HaTsUnE_NeKo will be the only person allowed to reupload updated versions of my mods.

DESCRIPTION:
This mod adds a new faction called The Dark Tech Society. The Dark Tech Society is a faction made up of shady individuals who were formerly part of the Tech Hunters. They have decided to sell rare hi-tech research items to people who pay the membership fee to join, instead of hording the tech and research from the old world.

But they like to be discrete, as to not draw the attention of bandits that would like to rob them and thake their expensive tech/research items. So, they developed a system for discrete customers to identify themselves... discreetly. Since the Dark Tech Society merchants are already greedy and opertunistic, they don't distribute the medallions for them to sell. You have to find "the contact" who will sell you a medallion, and give you membership into the Dark Tech Society.

Once you find "the contact"(his/her name is not "the contact" btw, the character has an actual name, they are not named "the contact") they will offer you the membership, and you have to pay a pretty large sum(75,000 cats) to gain access to this exclusive Society of hi-tech research merchants. While the price is quite high, you do gain access to merchants who sell a neverending supply of engineering research, ancient sicence books, and AI cores.

Here's the catch... They hang out in bars, but not in every city/town, and they have a fairly low spawn chance. In addition to that, they may not even have engineering research or ai cores at that time.
Also, Engineering Research's value was raised from 8,000 to 20,000 cats, because let's be honest, it's worth way more than a measly 8,000 cats!

"The contact" has a lot of custom dialogue, and his/her first introduction conversation is a one time only thing, and has some fun dialogue options, so if you wanted to explore all the dialogue, you should save before talking to him/her. Although, you won't know right away who is the contact, so you may have to reload an auto-save....

This mod does not hold your hand or tell you where everything is and who everyone is. This is intentional, because I think it adds to the adventure and journey, and in the end you'll feel more accomplished, and have had a more interesting and rewarding experience. Also I wnated it to fit seamlessly into the world.

If you don't know where to look for "the contact" or where to find a Dark Tech Society "merchant", my advice is to just use your brain, think about it for a full 60 seconds, and you'll probably either figure it out, or start heading in the right direction. If people keep asking where he/she is, I'll give some hints, but I don't want to detract from the search for him/her.

WHY?:
Because Engineering research and ai cores are often so rare, that there aren't enough of them in the game world to do all the research avaliable. This helps so you don't have to re-import the game if you don't want to!

FEATURES:

- New faction: The Dark Tech Society
- Dark Tech Society merchants that sell books, ancient science books, engineering research, and ai cores.
- Books (guaranteed to have), Will have a lot of Books.
- Ancient Sicence Books (Almost certainly have), Will have a fair amount.
- Engineering Research (50/50 chance give or take 10%) Will only have 1 or 2.
- AI Cores (50/50 chance give or take 10%)Will only have 1 or 2.
- Fun dialogue branches
- Adds a little lore/personality to go with a new game mechanic.

Why so mysterious about where "the contact" or Dark Tech Society "merchants" are located?
Because, I don't want to hand you something that should be rare and hard to get, on a silver platter...

Why is membership so expensive?.. Why are Dark Tech Society "merchants" not as common as other squads that spawn in bars?... Why do they not always have Engineering Research or AI Cores?.... Or other questions like these....
Because, the creative goal of the devs is to force you out of your base, and to adventure in order to aquire these rare research items, not only do I not want to detract from this goal, but I happen to agree with it, and I think it is a good thing. Despite the fact that when I build a base, my instinct is that I just want an easy way to get it too, and would rather just fork over large amounts of cats to an easy to find merchant, but after going on an adventure to find these items, I always feel more fulfilled afterwards. So, our first instinct or base desires don't always lead to the optimal experience.

Ok, you get one hint for the possible location of one Dark Tech Society Merchant... I'm only doing this, because it's necesarry when discussing compatibility...

COMPATIBILITY:
- Currently fully compaitble with all mods that add or expand cities. Yes, I tested them all.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This mod will run just fine with Expanded Cities - The Hub, with the exception that a Dark Tech Society merchant will never spawn in The Hub or The Hub Crossroads or The Hub Outskirts. They will however, spawn at the other locations I put them at. Both mods will run fine without causing any trouble, besides this.

@Gunrelated

Well sure, it's been out so long, I forgot this mod even existed lol!

Look around World's End. he isn't always in a bar or even in the city. He will patrol around the nearby area around the city, which for World's End is a fairly large area.He has a group of bodygaurds too.

Any chance I can have another tip on where to look?

Ah, yes! This mod is PERFECT! I haven't even started exploring any ruins yet because i wanted to have a base that can atleast support all basic needs like food and mid tier weapons. It won't be long to strike out however now so i was wondering how to get those ancient books and engineering things without making enemies harder to get this stuff. Thanks once again for this mod.

Well the contact is quite strong and has a large stong bodyguard, but I suppose it's posible that he/she died if you modded the game to make enemies stronger.... However, a new import is usally recommended for mods that add new npcs that need to spawn. Maybe that was it.

Anyways, I'm glad you found "the contact"! Welcome to the secret society of hi-tech goods!

I decided to start a new game and actually saw a Dark Techie Merchant hauling ass out of The Hub seconds after the initial load up. I found a Dark Tech Merchant in several other cities on my way to a specific place (will not say where) and finally found "the contact" about an hour later. I think my other game was bugged, because I quite literally left a person in every town and went through 3 in game days and never saw "the contact" once. I'm sure they either got killed or got stuck somewhere, because they are very hard to miss otherwise.

Don't give up! He/she's out there! And a hint, if you didn't already figure it out due to the way AI works in Kenshi, he/she will hang out in a bar in the same town for 12-24 hours then basically go on a patrol(although the AI is technically set to wander from town to town, they just go to neighboring towns and come back to their hometown) So, there's hope you'll find him/her.

I garuntee you he/she is out there! Shouldn't be too hard to find, it's not a trolly wild goose chase. I often run into "the contact" at a bar when I am recruiting or buying supplies... Actually I run into him/her way more than I'd like, but I can live with that.
