Aquitaine, Home of the Lace Tower (Unwalled & FFA)

Description
The Lore
Aquitaine is a bretonnian city, and the ducal capital of Aquitaine. It is famous for the Lace Tower, a tall spire built with so many windows that it looks as though it is made from stone lace. Dwarfs who see it mutter darkly about unsafe structures and future consequences, but the tower has stood for over a century.

The fact that the city is unwalled doesn't mean it's defendless: in the last years the duke has reinforced the city to resist beastman attacks coming from the surrounding forest, including a barricade around the town, and a complete reform of the Lace Tower, to be used as a defensive position.

The Map
Aquitaine, Home of the Lace Tower is a medium-little bretonnian map, with the town of Aquitaine in the middle surrounded by forest and agricultural land. There are four entrances to the town, one on each cardinal direction.

The town itself is in a slightly elevated position, with limited and easely defensive entrances. The "Lace Tower" in the middle of the town will shoot rotten corpses (that poison whoever they touch) to the enemy in an almost 360º arc, as long as you control it.

The map comes with two versions:
  • Unfortified settlement: It plays out like a classic unfortified settlement from Attila or Rome 2: you fight for a town and the enemy can start in any place around the town.
  • Asymetric Free For All: It plays like a "King of the Hill". Player 1 controls the city, the rest start in different sides of the map. The idea behind this is that one player starts in a defendable position... surrounded by the other three, that may or may not focus his attention in the town. Also, the tower and capture points are disabled in this mode, so the "defender" can't count on them.

How to play
Select the map from the "Unfortified Settlements" maps in custom battle (It's called "Aquitaine, Home of the Lace Tower", with a CA logo). A bit harder to play it in multiplayer because the other guys need to download the map first.

If you want to play it in a "Free for all" battle, it's also in the "Free for all" list, called "Aquitaine, Home of the Lace Tower".

The FAQ
  • The tower is too stronk/weak!: The tower is a very nerfed version of the level 4 bretonnian tower, with A LOT LESS health (down in three/four salvos of a trebuchet), less damage, a bit more ROF and a 360º arc. Also, it causes poison.
  • The attacker AI only deploys in the south!: Don't know why, but it does it. It's not too much of a problem, as it deploys outside the range of the lace tower and sometimes move troops to the other entrances of the town.
  • Too.. many... plants!: Press space.

The Credits
  • Frodo45127: I did the map.
  • Kazad: He did most of the buildings you can see inside the town.

Lovely work! One question, how did you make a FFALL map ? I havent' seen the FFALL export preference in Terry editor. Thanks for your time!

upon defending or attacking the Ai will always put troops everywhere. i havn't seen the AI attack only one side like in other custom maps so far.

the AI defend the place surprisingly well which is really nice.
the map is both beatifull and fully compatible with the AI so good job :)

tho i wonder why you made the cow launcher tower in the middle capturable from the market place instead of from the capture zone. i can somewhat understand why balance wise so the defender can't just block the only road toward the capture point while the tower destroy the attackers but it is wierd to see a bridge coming from the tower leading to the capture zone while the tower capture zone is in the opposite direction.

it also create a wired situation when the attackers can just sit on the market place and just wait for the cow launcher tower to kill all defender troops camping on the capture zone without having to get to that zone to capture the town.

How do you make a map into an FFA?

Hello, I want to make a Totalwar:Warhammer 2 map, too.Can the Map Editor of Totalwar:Warhammer 2 set the birth location of AI's army? For example, set AI's troops to be deployed on a high ground in the northwest corner of the map.

I knew I forgot something.... Sure, but it needs a little patch first. And yes, the walled version is planned, it's just I've yet to decide where to put the walls. It'll be boring to just surround the town with them, after all.

Are you planning a walled version? Also, could you send me a version without the wall for the campaign? Also, why am I even writing you this in a steam comment?

Anyway nice work as usual :)
