Introduction
So finally it is here, my second clan guide.

First of all, I want to say thank you to a player and youtuber who helped and/or inspired me while I was searching for a way to go: Crazy Dentist. Even if he will never read this guide. :P
I also want to give credit to the player pablichan for sharing his combat tactics and to my friend Ryu Hayabusa for testing different army compositions in a custom game with me.

I really recommend to check out Dentist's youtube channel. The videos that had the biggest influence on this guide are "Northgard Boar clan Early Altar Build Order" and "Northgard Boar Clan build order (Boar Clan lore strategy)".

This guide is a mix of the mentioned sources and my own ideas. :)

Clan Mentality - Does boar fit your playstyle?
You will probably enjoy this clan if...
  • ...you have a defensive mindset and like to turtle.
  • ...you have no problem with being ultra passive and winning the game without attacking.
  • ...you are a patient person and have no problem with long games.

You will probably NOT like the clan if you prefer to be very aggressive. However, I heard about some military boar rushes but I simply think the other clans are much better at it and boar is simply the most effective lore clan in my opinion.
Build Order
Of course the build order can vary according to the stiuation you are facing but in general the following is a good way to go for:

1. scout camp in the start area
2. woodcutter's lodge next to the start area

----- colonize a second area (try to leave one food area for later) -----

3. normal training camp in the start area
4. harbor in the start area

----- colonize a food area -----

5. food building that fits your food area (farm, hunter hut or fisher hut)
6. silo into food area

----- colonize more areas for space, pop cap and happiness -----

7. second harbor if you have enough coasts, otherwise a marketplace
8. stone mine (build a second mine before the first stone spawn is exhausted)
9. altar of kings
--> after the altar is built always use your stone to build rune stones as soon as possible
--> make sure to get erudition before you build carved stones (their cost is halved by it)
10. add more military camps (focus on shield bearer camps) and towers
--> go for camps first if it is an open map
--> go for towers first if there are choke points
11. one or two marketplace(s)
12. very late in the game when you already have a big army, you can add a Healer's Hut
--> I usually build it after I got my warchief and he got hurt

Additional tips:
  • You usually do not need more than one house as boar. However, the right moment for building it varies according to the situation. If you can expand very fast (for example because you got some sheeps), you can build it later (maybe after the silo or the food production building). If you are forced to expand slowly, you will have to build the house earlier (probably after your harbor).
I want to give credit to the readers of this guide here because they mentioned that building the house at the start of the game is not the best idea and I think they are right.
  • Getting another food building in later game stages is always helpful.
  • If you can not keep your population happy by the "Osmosis" skill, you should build a brewery after your first stone mine.
  • In some games I build a second woodcutter's lodge and use it for a little while (for example when hard winters get announced).
Lore

The trading section should always be the first one to pick up because "Simple Living" is just an awesome skill, which will accelerate your early game by a lot. The poduction bonus of "Handiwork" is also extremely helpful because you do not want to upgrade more buildings than the town hall and maybe some towers and/or axe thrower camps.. You will need the stone to build rune stones.

Sometimes "Osmosis" is not worth it. However, in the most games I had at least one tile that synergized with it, which is already enough to take it in my opinion because it actually means that one less brewer is needed. If one tile is not worth it in your opinion or if you have zero tiles fitting this skill, do not take it and go straight for "Sharp Axes".

The economy section is the second goal in the lore tree and needed to maximize the advantage given by an early altar (I am talking about "Legacy" at the end). Maybe "Colonization" is better for your playstyle than "Lay of the Land". However, I usually do not expand that much as boar and like to turtle behind some towers, so "Lay of the Land" is by far more useful for me. Maybe I would take it if an ally helps me to clear all tiles nearby. After the sixth skill you should go for erudition to make use of all the stone offered by "Jörd's Blessing".

The best second skill in the military section varies according to the situation.
Have you gone for towers first playing on a map with choke points? --> "Defensive Strategy"
Have you gone for camps first playing on an open map and fearing winter attacks? --> "Fur Coats"
You can pick up "Feeling Safe" if you have happiness problems.
Military Path

"Guardian" is probably the best choice for the defensive and turtling nature of the boar clan because "Guardian" is obviously the only path that focuses on that type gameplay.
Game Stages
Early Game - year 800 and 801

In this game stage you should usually focus on completing your building process and getting a strong economy. If you need some help with that, check out the "Build Order" section of this guide.
I recommend getting two scouts at the start to explore all areas next to your town hall and then returning one scout back into a villager to get a better economy. After getting the first training camp it is a good idea to get two warriors to clear nearby areas to make sure you won't get attacked. After you ensured the safety of your clan you really should return unhurt warriors into villagers to improve your economy. The boar clan synergizes extremely well with bear clan because it can use its strong defensive forces to protect you until lore victory. Make sure that your harbors are gathering lore and not fame. The goal of the strategy in this guide is to get an altar of kings very fast, probably in year 801. If you have a ruin or lore stone next to your spawn, you can use the lore it offers to rush your "Simple Living". I recommend to stop the building process after your first harbor until the skill is unlocked. Turn your wounded people into warriors and use them to clear tiles until they are dead. Do not throw feasts in early game and mid game, keep the production buffs for later. In team games ask your allies to wait for feasts until year 802-803. Last but not least I recommend doing a scout rush to the special map tile for the additional 50 fame. However, in team games there can be an ally who needs it much more than you.

Mid Game - year 802

In this game stage you should maximize your lore production by building as much carved stones as possible. Furthermore getting five military camps and some towers is also a good idea because you need a good defense when an army arrives at your territory to stop you before the lore victory is reached. If you are playing against raven, make sure to get a tower in each coast tile and upgrade it at some point (you can get stone from the marketplace for that purpose).

I recommend getting at least 20 iron bars to upgrade your warriors' and shield bearers' tools and to get a warchief. Jörd's Blessing will already give you 10.

Late Game - year 803 and later

There is not much to say here because you basically continue doing everything you are doing in mid game. In addition this will be the time where feasts have the biggest impact since your lore production is going to be insane. Depending on the map conditions you should win by lore in year 803 or at the start of year 804.

One more thing to say: In games with the relic of the gods you can of course colonize it to buff your lore production by a huge amount. However, this one is extremely stiuational, very difficult to get because you have to kill valkyries for it and sometimes you have to expand a lot just to get near it.

Army Composition
Axe Thrower spam is usually a great strategy as Boar if you ask me. They are simply a great unit for defensive purposes because of their ranged nature. You may send your forces in and out from different angles to kite hostile soldiers around. The use of such tactics allows you to deal massive amounts of damage to invading people without critical punishment for your side. If there is also a tower in the atacked tile, your enemy can become overwhelmed and confused very fast.
Mind Games
In games with only two different factions you should always try to get the lore as fast as possible. However, in games with more than two sides (for example 2vs2vs2 or FFA with four players) it can be a smart decision to slow down your lore production to avoid getting to much unfriendly attention. You can build a pretty good defense as boar but being attacked by more than two clans is probably your end. Even two clans are hard to combat alone. If there is serious competition in peaceful victory, you should make sure that you stay ahead though. So you actually need to balance both things.
Conclusion
Thanks for reading the guide! :)

Guess it's no surprise that you didn't know, it's very hard to find a game that's not already in progress on switch and even then, there's usually only 2-3 per day. Wouldn't say a ton of people know about it. On the plus side, since we are and always will be very behind, I don't feel the need to investigate the various nerfs everyone keeps complaining about.

I actually had no idea that there even is a Switch Version. :D
So I can't really tell. Maybe you could just try out this guide and see whether it is working or not. Maybe it's good to get into the clan and then you can adjust it on your own to make it great for the current Switch version. :)

It's always nice to see that this game is still played by lots of people, even if I am not one of them at the moment. :)

Slidrugtanni is my favorite clan by far, and I figured I should ask since the switch version is so behind the pc version with updates and stuff (we don't even have conquest mode) is this guide out of date for the switch version too, or no?

Well, it worked for me when I wrote the guide. However, this happened a long time ago. Furthermore I was only an iron player. So of course my strategies were never good enough for ranks that are higher than iron. (:

The real issue is in high games you are not allowed to go other victory conditons except domination. Even if you buff lore victory the moment you go for lore stone , spending your precious stones into lore stone and your 6-7 villagers (which can/must be sent into food or gold buildings) to loremasters. I used try going for lore vic in low game and ended up 5-1 food 100 + 2 gold. Lore vic nerf is not the main point.

Like I said: The guide is outdated. Of course it won't work anymore. :D A long time ago lore victory was much stronger (you could reach it faster). Then they nerfed it because it was too strong. (: And even the date of this nerf is so far back in the past. This guide is not up-to-date. I write it in the guide titles now.

If you try to make the things you say then you prob rushed 802 even before you build lore stone

Well, it's quiet obvious that this guide is heavily outdated, isn't it? xD
Feel free to write a better one if you are feeling so outstanding smart.^^
This one isn't going to be updated in the near future.

Haha, you are welcome and thank you for your feedback! =)
My third clan guide will come but I can't say when. However, I can announce that it will be for the clan of the snake. (:
