Journal of Conrad Azohi - Day 317 after embarking

After making it out of the Yut Koruga jungle, my group wandered through less densely forested regions until we broke free of trees and made it into the rolling hills of the Nuro lakelands. This region has been a welcome change from the Sin Hult Mountains and Yut Koruga. The weather here is much warmer than I am used to, but there are always sources of fresh water within a few hours of walking, and most animals present are herding herbivores. In fact, this place could be good for settlement, if it weren't for the highly hostile territories blocking it off from more civilized regions.

There are primitive people inhabiting these lands, though they strike me as unusual in the extreme. It seems as though there is a common theme among the different tibes of the Nuro lakelands that enduring pain is a great accomplisment. Some tribes scar themselves. Others will ingest chemicals that cause pain. One tribe in particular, who we have been lucky enough to come into direct contact with, formulates a type of incandescent ink, which they then use to tattoo themselves. Our group had to accept small tattoos on the back of our hands in order to stay with them long enough to study them. It was certainly one of the most painful experiences of my life, but the ink faded after some time, the pain leaving with it.

I dedicated some time to studying this tribe, as their methods of formulating this tattoo ink involve some fairly complex alchemical manipulation of base elements, and I felt the need to study how a less advanced culture managed to acheive such manipulations. In the next few pages I've written down my findings on the chemical, along with an attempt at recreating it using traditional alchemical methods.

No problem, Kenny. I'm happy to have done so. I'll probably come back and add some more at some point, too.
