Description
Era - 1920s / 1930s - Boxing - Middleweight

Mickey Walker was one rough, tough son of a gun. He lived hard and fought harder, but also was a notable painter and golfer. Walker amazingly moved up from Welterweight all the way up to fighting, and beating top level Heavyweights and Light Heavyweights.

Walker's style could be best described as a human maelstrom, perpetually pressuring the opponent with a flurry of fists and ill-intent. Unafraid of taking punches, Walker's steadfast aggression either carried him to victory or led to crushing defeat, as when he fought Max Schmeling.

Perhaps there was no more fitting fight for Walker than the one he took part in on July 2 of 1925. On that day, Mickey Walker fought his mirror image in fellow wildman Harry Greb, the two going the distance in what was described as a true fight for the ages, with Greb winning a close decision. The fight wasn't over by then, however, as the two would again engage in hostilities at a pub, later that night, disputing the true victor of their contest. This time, Walker emerged victorious, landing a cheap punch on Greb as he removed his jacket and knocking him out in the back alleyway.
