Description
Era - 1910s / 1930s - Boxing - Lightweight

Perhaps the most well rounded boxer of his era, and one of the most complete fighters of all time, Benny Leonard was a true scientist of the fistic studies, blending knockout power, intricate footwork, accurate combinations and superb defensive technique together, with the result of a Lightweight title run that lasted from 1917 to 1925, the longest in history.

Born in a rough Jewish neighborhood in New York City, Leonard grew up fighting, developing incredible reflexes and an equally fast mind, able to outthink opponents as much as he outworked them. While his intiial run with the Lightweight title was as remarkable as any streaks in boxing history, his return in 1931 after a 1925 retirement merely added icing on the cake. While Leonard's top end physical abilities were somewhat diminished, he was still able to put together twenty wins in this phase of his career.
