Operation Baltic Heat III

Description
This is the third mission in the Operation Baltic Heat Campaign. This campaign follows the events of Operation Sandstorm and the Four Day War. This campaign involves a series of operations in the Baltic between Russia and NATO.

This mission involves a broad naval offensive across the Northern European theater by NATO against Russia. NATO forces have secured Kaliningrad and are holding fast, and a quick decisive naval victory is key to victory in the war.

UPDATE 1: Added Merlin AEW helicopters to the Queen Elizabeth

As for doctrine, I went over to the Russian side and changed their posture to free fire on any UNID contacts, rather than try to ID them. This way, NATO dosen't have as great of an advantage in the air, as the Russians no longer need a positive ID to fire.

Overall, I enjoyed the scenario a lot! Keep it up!

I took the NATO ships in the Baltic already and formed them into a mini-SAG, and sent them North. Currently, if the Victor III dosen't detect you, theres no way that the Russian strike launches, as their AEW aircraft are too far inland. I would recommend giving them escorts and moving them closer to the front if you want them to do any work.

Just for fun, I let my SAG be detected. The strike works well, but none of the ARM equipped aircraft launch. I think this is because no radars are detected. I took murderous losses stopping the planes that were coming at me (almost a full squadron of Polish F-16s!), but none of the missiles got though. Not sure what you can do for the ARM aircraft, unless you use LUA to force them to launch. A competent player won't turn on their radars until the Russians launch missiles, and by that point its too late for the ARM aircraft to take off.

By Norway, JSM and LRASM strikes took care of everything except the Russian Carrier. I should have kept some brimstones avalible, because that Carrier tanked everything I threw at it! Salvoes of SLAMs, Harpoons, and ASW Tomahawks did nothing. It took a huge salvo of 32 tomahawks to finally send her to the bottom. Truly the American way, I guess.

The AAW fight over the Baltic Sea was pretty straightforward: Take my AMRAAM-D and Metor aircraft, shoot at the enemy, and burn out of their range. I didn't lose a single aircraft this way, although there were some close calls.

No problem! I've finished the rest of the scenario at this point, and here are some of my comments: (In multiple posts)

The amount of anti-ship missiles you have avaliable to you is pure overkill. I was able to take out every ship in the Baltic Sea with ~40 LRASMs from the DESTRON group, and barely needed to touch the MMT Tomahawks on my CVBG. I would cut the tomahawks on the ships by at least 1/2, and maybe remove the LRASMs from the DESTRON group entirely. After all, didn't the Navy recently announce that they were ditching the LRASM and going with the NSM instead?

Hello, thanks for pointing out the lack of AEW Merlin’s, I will fix that. To answer the rest of your questions, yes I fully support you as the player doing whatever you see fit to best complete the scenario. However, this mission does not have unlimited ordinance, so if you want your planes to fly multiple sorties, your best bet is to fly them from their home base. The Brimstone loadouts are just a reflection of giving player choice right off the bat in case they feel like getting close and personal with stealth aircraft is a good choice. The scenario is so large I felt like that it was important to give the player as many options as possible, however risky they would be. So yes, please do what you see fit, and rearm whatever aircraft how you would like.

Thanks for continually support my scenarios!

Just going through all my forces and setting up missions, and I had a couple of questions:

Was it intentional to not give the QE Carrier Group an AEW helicopter? I added a couple of Merlin AEW helicopters, as I don't think the British would sail without them.

I'm planning on transferring my Eurofighters and British F-35s over to Poland, I was wondering what you thought of that. Do you support players making decisions such as these, or do you want them to leave forces where they spawn?

I'm also questioning the Brimstone loadouts. There are no land targets, and I'm not going to get within 37nm of a russian ship when I have literally hundreds of ASMs with a much larger range. I re-roled those aircraft to AAW loadouts.

I'm going to play through some of it tonight and add any more comments if I have them.
