Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is KHLORIS and this is my guide on breeding a S rank Chao in Sonic Adventure 2! I discovered this game was on steam recently and I was overjoyed with the feelings of nostalgia from when I played it as a young girl. I beat the game in one day and then finished advancing my first Chao to full points in every category along with beating all the Chao races and karate tournaments. At this point I wasn't sure what to do next, so I decided to breed a full S rank Chao but wasn't sure how to do it. I searched the internet for guides and was surprised by the lack of guides there were on the subject. There was breeding, genetics, and stat explanations but there wasn't exactly a complete and thorough guide that explained each and every step for dummies like me. After some trial and error I figured it out and have decided to make this guide for you!

The Guide
You can start breeding a S rank Chao at any point in your game, but since I just bought the game on steam I am starting from square 1 in the Chao Garden using one of the Chao given to me and another from the Black Market. I purchased the blue egg from the Black Market and found the stats to be decent so I decided to start breeding.

First Chao
My first Chao parent is Mochi.
Mochi is my maxed out Chao and doesn't have very good stats, but that's alright it just means breeding will take a little longer. When a Chao evolves from a baby to an adult one of its original stats will raise one level depending on the nature of the Chao. For example, if the baby Chao has running grade of C and evolves into an adult Chao with a running nature, it's running grade will then be a B.
Mochi is a Normal Hero Chao with the original stats D, C, A, B, E. Because Mochi evolved into a normal type Chao, it's stamina grade went from an E to a D, giving it the final stats of D, C, A, B, D.
(Picture of Normal Hero Chao Mochi. Note; Mochi is a 1 "year" old adult)

My second parent is Bento.
Bento was hatched from a blue egg bought from the Black Market. Bento is a Flying Dark Chao with the original stats, E, B, D, C, A. When Bento evolved into a adult Chao its nature was flying, so his flying nature raised one grade from a B to an A giving him the final stats of E, A, D, C, A.

How I Raise and Breed Chaos fast.
In order to breed Chao you will need to purchase two heart fruits from the Black Market. You're going to need a lot of heart fruits as we breed, so you will end up needing a lot of rings. I recommend using this glitch to getting unlimited rings, explained in this guide here. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=837642057
If you don't want to do that however, I recommend running Tails' Route 101 where you can get 300 rings per a run equaling one heart fruit.I bought two heart fruits and gave one to Mochi and one to Bento, they bred and I got a baby Chao I named Sashimi.

Sashimi is a Flying Neutral Chao with the original stats, D, A, A, B, A. Genetics, traits, and stats are bred down from the parents and ancestors of the Chao. Sashimi received his stats (in order) D stat from Mochi, A stat from Bento, A stat from Mochi, B stat from Mochi, and A stat from Bento. I was lucky and got the desired stats the first try. Usually this isn't the case and you may need to breed several times before you get the desired stats. You want the best stats that each parent has. Breeding Mochi and Bento together it is possible I could of got a baby with the stats, E, C, D, C, D, which are the worst stats that each of them have. If this happens, keep breeding until you get their best stats. Now that I have my baby Chao (Sashimi) with the desired stats from each parent, I choose to raise it to be a Flying Type in order to raise the flying grade from an A to an S (Stat and grade mean the same thing.)

Drive Running
You can use animals to raise your Chao's stats but I advise against it and advise using drives only so that you can see the Chao change in physical appearance as it grows closer to its first evolution. I like to run Tails' Prison Lane and Dr Eggman's Iron Gate for drives. You can run any stage you want but these are my personal favorite as you can get many drives in little time. Interacting with a Chao with a Hero Character will give the Chao a Hero type, and interacting with a Chao with a Dark Character will give the Chao a Dark type. It doesn't matter if your Chao has a Hero, Dark, or Neutral typing (its your personal preference) but you can switch between these two stages if you want to make your Chao have a Neutral type as it will interact with both Hero and Dark Characters it will remain neutral.
This is a link to what baby Chaos will look like before and after their first evolution, https://chao.hippotank.com/sa2b/first-evolution
and this is a link to possible adult Chao type evolutions, (in case you want a specific look for the babies you breed, the appearance won't effect the breeding process.) https://chao.hippotank.com/sa2b/second-evolution?alignment=all&abilityType=all
If you don't know how the Chao life cycle works, here is a link explaining it for reference https://chao.hippotank.com/sa2b/life-cycle although I will explain it later in this guide.
When I run Tails' stage or Dr Eggman's stage I only pick up the drive color I need and avoid the others.
Swim - Yellow
Fly - Purple
Run - Green
Power - Red
Because I am trying to raise Sashimi's flying state, I only pick up the purple drives and I avoid the other ones. You can restart and leave a stage and keep your drives, you do not need to complete the stage. When I run Tails' Prison Lane I restart the stage using the menu once I reach the first elevator to save time. Dr Eggman's Iron Gate can be restarted right before the end once you reach the rocket that breaks open the doors.
I run the stages over and over collecting drives until the baby Chao's stat is raised to at least 14. Once it's desired stat is 14 you will need to evolve the baby Chao to an adult before it can breed. It is said that it takes 3-5 hours before a baby Chao evolves into it's adult state but you can do it in an hour with a trick, I even once involved a Chao from baby to adult in only thirty minutes but most take an hour.
Once the Chao's desired stat is raised to at least 14 I wait in the Chao Garden. Time only passes while you are in the garden, it doesn't pass while you are playing other stages in the game, and it only passes in the specific garden you are in. Feeding Chao fruit speeds up the evolution process, so during this hour you are going to feed the Chao endless fruit even if it throws the fruit away. I usually allow the Chao to nap but you can wake it if you want and keep feeding it fruit. You will notice overtime that your Chao will change in appearance the closer it gets to its first evolution, you can check the appearances here, https://chao.hippotank.com/sa2b/first-evolution
If you have access to the Hero Chao garden, there is a trick where if you place a Chao against the fallen pillar to the left of the entrance (when you walk in) it will get stuck and walk in place. This makes it a lot easier to constantly feed the Chao fruit as it won't be able to walk away from you.
It is a lot easier to feed the Chao it's favorite fruit as it is more likely to eat it without complaining. You can check your Chao's favorite fruit in the Health Center. You'll need the trowel (little shovel) won in the Crab Pool race under Beginner Races. The watering can is optional, but speeds up the fruit trees growth rate, it is won in the Stump Valley race under Beginner Races.

Section 2
Buy the right seed for the fruit your Chao likes and give it to the Chao that has the trowel so it may plant the fruit seed. You can start a stop watch (if you want) and start feeding your Chao endless amounts of fruit, it should change anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour and a half.
After an hour Sashimi evolved into a Neutral Flying type with a original grade of D, A, A, B, A, and a final grade of D, S, A, B, A, giving us our first S grade.
Then I purchased two more heart fruits, and breed Sashimi with Mochi keeping the Chao that has the best stats from each parent. I get Onigiri with the best stats of D, S, A, B, A, and decide to raise its running stat. I give it green drives raising the stat to 14 and then wait in the garden for an hour feeding him fruit as described before. When he evolves an hour later he has the final stats, D, S, S, B, A, giving us our second S.
Then I breed Sashimi with Onigiri (always breeding the Chao with the best stats.)
I decided to try something different here and actually bred for two Chaos with good stats so that I could raise two stats up one grade at the same time and then breed the siblings together. I got Sake with a original grade of D, S, S, C, A, and bred him as a normal type to raise his stamina grade giving him a final grade of D, S, S, C, S.
The other Chao is Ramune with an original grade of E, S, S, B, A. I evolved him with a power nature to raise the B to an A, giving him a final grade of E, S, S, A, A.
Notice how Ramune has a swim grade of E even though its parents (Onigiri and Sashimi) both had a D grade. This is because it's possible that the Chao can receive grades from their ancestors, in this case the E grade came from Bento. It isn't a problem it just means it's possible to get undesired stats from past Chao, and it may take more breeding attempts to get the Chao baby with perfect stats. Because Mochi was a regular Chao and Bento a colored blue Chao you will notice that some of the babies are blue and some are regular.
I then bred Sake, and Ramune together. It took me many, many, many, tries before I got a perfect Chao with the stats of each parent, sometimes it will take many tries and sometimes you will get it right away, don't get discouraged just keep on breeding.

Eventually I got Dango with a original grade of, D, S, S, A, S, and evolved him into a power Chao giving him a final grade of D, S, S, S, S.
Notice how we have four S grades now but our Swimming is a D. This means we will have to raise the swimming grade four times.
I then bred Sake with Dango because Sake's swim grade was higher than Ramune's at a D rather than an E. I got Ramen with a original grade of D, S, S, S, S and evolved it into a swimming type giving it a final grade of C, S, S, S, S.
I then bred Ramen with Dango and got Tofu with an original grade of C, S, S, S, S, and evolved it into a swimming type giving it a final grade of B, S, S, S, S.
I then bred Ramen with Tofu and got Tempura with an original grade of B, S, S, S, S and evolved it into a swimming type giving it a final grade of A, S, S, S, S.
(Home stretch!) I then bred Tofu with Tempura and got Udon, with an original grade of A, S, S, S, S, and evolved it into a swimming type giving it a final grade of S, S, S, S, S.
And yay! We finally got our complete S rank Chao! Now I don't want my final Chao's type to be a swimming type (as it is not my favorite appearance wise) so I decided to breed one more time breeding Udon and Tempura giving me my final Chao RUSE. I then evolved RUSE into a flying type (as they are my favorite) and I plan to max out it's stats! And there we go, a complete S rank Chao!
Your final Chao can have any nature you want, Hero, Dark, or Neutral, but I advise you make it a Neutral type so that it can win every single medal in the races as two of the races are Hero and Dark type only (if you care about that.)

Thank you so much for reading my guide, I hope it was helpful to you! Please rate it up and comment as I would love to read your comments! It took me less than a week to get my S rank Chao so it certainly didn't take that long.

@KHLORIS actually it'll let you chose the name if you answer "No", "No", and "Yes". :)

@joshuaeisenbart52 I guess as a note to this person and anyone else who checks out this (awesome) guide, this is not true. Unfortunately, a Chao only gets a stat "upgrade" when it hits its first evolution. It does get a second, more gradual, evolution over the course of its life. But since this one does not result in an evolution cocoon, they don't get a stat bump. Would be lovely if they did, though.

@zakatakary You have to let the fortune teller pick three names for your chao and keep selecting the option for her to choose a new name. Once you deny the third name she'll let you name it yourself.

How do you pick your names for the chao? I alway have to reroll at the fortune teller. They are always stupid or the same names as the ones I got for other chao.
