Historical Notes:

A pre-dreadnought battleship built in Britain for the Japanese Navy. Mikasa became notorious during the Russo-Japanese War, during which she served as Admiral Togo's flagship. Unlike other battleships of the time, she was not scrapped as part of the Washington Naval Treaty and was instead placed on land as museum. Today, Mikasa is the only surviving pre-dreadnought battleship as well as the only surviving battleship built in Britain.

Armament as of 1905 consisted of 2x2 305mm/40 Type 41 guns, 14x1 152.4mm/40 Type 41 guns, 20x1 76.2mm Type 41 guns, 12x1 47mm/40 Hotchkiss guns and 4x1 450mm torpedo launchers

Mikasa, named after Mount Mikasa, was the only ship of her class.

Battleship Mikasa (1905)

One of the most notorious Japanese battleships, the Mikasa served with the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Russo-Japanese war, fighting in the siege of Port Arthur and the battle of the Yellow Sea. During the battle of Tsushima Strait it served as the flagship of Admiral Togo and was, with the other Japanese battleships, responsible for the destruction of a large portion of the Russian fleet. Despite this impressive victory, Mikasa suffered an accident shortly after the war and sank. She was raised and repaired, continuing to serve as a coastal defence ship throughout World War 1. During the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty, all signing countries allowed to have Mikasa preserved as a museum ship. She is the only pre-dreadnought battleship to survive to this day.
