Description
REQUIRES ADDITIONAL INSTALLATION! SEE BELOW!

This is a Wwise Mms music pack featuring the soundtrack from the original System Shock. It uses a soundfount based on the Roland SSC-1, which is almost identical to the hardware the soundtrack was originally composed on.

This is not merely a set of looping compositions derived from the System Shock MIDIs, but is instead a true adaptation of the game's interactive music system. System Shock featured a groundbreaking soundtrack which was constructed on-the-fly from a set of MIDI tracks which ran concurrently but could be enabled or disabled depending on what was happening in-game. While the musical needs of XCOM are different, and therefore require those tracks to be used differently, this pack attempts to emulate the spirit of the original system.

The video above was put together fairly quickly, but demonstrates both the music's tone and a small number of Wwise Mms's features.

Installation
In order to use this pack you must:
  • Subscribe to the mod
  • Download one of these .bat files, for either vanilla[www.hallmonitor.ca] or WotC[www.hallmonitor.ca] . You can have both versions installed simultaneously if you follow this process for both files.
  • Place it in your Steam installation folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\Steam\)
  • Run it.
The bat file creates links to the required sound banks in your XCom folders. This allows me to push updates to the banks and need only be done once for this pack. If you don't follow this step then the pack will produce silence.

Likely To Be FAQ

Will this work with Mac/Linux?
It should, but probably not as-is (and obviously not with a .bat file). If one person contacts me for each platform I can sort this out, so give me a shout and we should be able to get it going without too much difficulty.

Will you make a version of this for use with regular MMS?
Nope. I built Wwise Mms specifically because I needed it to make this.

Thanks
There are too many people to thank for this. Of course there is Greg LoPiccolo for the amazing soundtrack, Wenchy for SSPLAYER[wenchy.net] which allowed me to extract the individual tracks as MIDIs and Robojumper whose MMS made this possible. However, there are also the makers of Foobar 2000, foo_mid, SoX, Audacity, Wwise, all of the soundfonts I have used and of course XCom 2 and System Shock themselves. Then there are the members of the http://hydrogenaud.io/ and SystemShock.org forums who were helpful in sorting various aspects of this thing out. Lastly, I can't forget my girlfriend who tolerated this whole project, which really took quite a lot longer than I said it would.

This pack is very much built on the shoulders of giants.

the path in the WOTC batch file seems to be wrong; it should be \steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\CookedPCConsole\

it is currently steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\CookedPCConsole\

with the path edited, it seems to be fine!

Ok, thanks. I will take a look and see about updating the batch file. Mostly likely only affects WotC.

I'm not much of a coder but now that I am taking a second look at the issue I'm pretty sure this isn't AML's fault. What happened is that the CookedPCConsole file the .bat was looking for was not in its usual spot. It seems to have been moved to something like ' Users/user/document/MyGames/XCOM2 WOTC '. So what I did was placed CookedPCConsole back in its old spot so the .bat would send the files and then moved it back to its new position and that got everything to work. That's about as much as I know about this issue.

Great, I'm glad you enjoyed it! What did you have to do to get it to work?

@nintendoeats Thanks a bunch! After a bit of fiddling with it a bit (I assume because I used the alternate mod launcher to play) I managed get everything to work like a charm. I always thought that these sorts of adaptive soundtracks go under-appreciated so I am glad someone put the work in on making something that makes the most of X-COM 2's audio middle-ware. Excellent Mod.10/10

@Violent Violet Violin
Ok, my butt has been kicked enough times that I've finally fixed them :)
Unfortunately because Wordpress has opinions they have to be stored in zip files now, but what we can do.

Since none of the links have been restored can I assume that this mod has been discontinued? If so that's a shame, because it looked very interesting.

the link to the bat file does not work; it says "this item was deleted"

I've just been playing with a wide mix of packs (including one of ∑3245's), and I don't feel that the overall mix of this pack is abnormally loud. If anything, I find it a bit quiet in spots relative to the actual sound effects. On that basis, I am disinclined to lower it any further. However, I appreciate the feedback.
