Description
Era - 1930s/1950s - Judo/Proto-MMA/Pro Wrestling

Known for his use of the double wristlock hold that popuarly carries his name to this day, Masahiko Kimura was a top level judoka for many years in Japan, known for his brutal O-Soto Gari, the outer reaping throw he perfected both in competiton and by practicing against a tree.

Kimura trained with the legendary Mas Oyama in Karate to add to his skills and traveled overseas to take on new challenges. His most famous opponent was Helio Gracie, representing Gracie Jiu-Jitsu from Brazil. Kimura fought him in 1951 under a BJJ ruleset, and eventually broke his opponent's arm with a series of armlocks.

Pro wrestling would become another endeavor of Kimura, as he founded his own group, the Kokusai Pro Wrestling Association. Infamously, he had a cross promotional match with Rikidozan, one which ended with a terrible beatdown at the hands of his opponent.
