Savoia S.21 Experimental Fighter "Folgore" (Drae’d)

The Savoia S.21 Experimental Fighter "Folgore" is a flying boat fighter seen in the Japanese film, "Porco Rosso". It is piloted by the main character, Marco Pagotto, or "The Crimson Pig", who is a retired Italian World War I ace, now a bounty hunter. The S.21 is the only one of her kind, made mostly of wood, and powered by a massive V12 engine mounted above the wing. The plane was described as being a wonder to fly, and superior to other fighters in maneuverability. On of the plane's biggest blind spots is directly above and in front of it, making it vulnerable to head ons or ambushes from the front. Though mostly of Italian design, the machine guns are German, and a British Rolls Royce engine was later fitted to it.
