Description
Habitation stations will now produce negative amounts of Food Rations. Practically, this results in ROC really "eating" food.

The problem lies in the implementation of "eating food". Technical info: Currently, producing Food Rations using the DeVries method (the method used by Habitation stations) nets a consumption of 200 Food Rations / hour. However, looking into the details, this method first consumes 240 Food Rations / hour ("the first step"), then produces 40 Food Rations / hour ("the second step"). If some m-f-ker fully stocks a Habitation station, the second step will fail, and the Habitation will then become a useless and meaningless station. (dont tell me they can be used for in-zone anti-fighter defence platform lol)

Technical info: "Why not Step 1: consume 0 Food Rations / hour, and Step 2: produce -200 Food Rations / hour?" Well, I have tested it: the Step 1 part would cause a UI crash with something like "have nothing to display". We don't do that here. Instead, here are some technical info about this mod:

Updated Food Rations production [DeVries]:
  • Consumes: 720 Energy Cells / hour
  • Consumes: 40 Food Rations / hour
  • Consumes: 240 Food Rations / hour
  • Produces: -160 Food Rations / hour
  • No Manager, DO, Specialist, or Secondary Resources bonuses
  • Actual effect: -200 Food Rations / hour (max bonus: +0%) (unchanged overall intended effect)

Compatibility
  • Save-game compatible? YES. Technical Info: The state of production modules are specified inside the savefile. The details (the time-out, consumptions, productions, etc) are stored as part of the savefile.
  • Conflicts with other mods? NO. Should not affect any other mods.

technically the canterans can only stock so much food as their universal storage allows them.
because i let them produce multiple container wares (fusion reactors, RMP and Bio-Optics) the storage will be shared and restricted.

the game simply ensures that a stations theoretical maximum capacity would be all wares equally.

if you notice that the canterans are stockpiling food in the habitations than it is because they don't get supplies for the other products... before a certain chapter point they don't maintain mining operations.. so they don't have Ore, Silicon and Nividium to produce the additional Wares.

also... i remember that the game mechanics skip wares when they can't be produced for some time...

at last my "eat that stuff" method should kick in every now and than.

Unfortunately, Canteran Homemade Technology (CHT) will take priority over this mod when it comes to XML patching.

Fundamentally, what CHT is trying to do is the same with vanilla implementation, albeit with larger values. When comparing the vaues from both mods, CHT:
- Consumes 3x Energy Cells (of the value of this mod)
- Consumes 3x Water
- Food Rations net change 72x

TL;DR : Under CHT, this mod won't work, Canterans use more resources. Using CHT, it is less likely that Food Rations consumption is stuck, but it is still possible .

Looks good. Do you know how it would interact with Canteran Handmade Technology , though? It does something similar, and claims to also have a go at the issue your mod fixes, but I still saw Food Rations building up.
