[Outdated] Resource Guide
By vizthex
This is a guide on the different resources of ASTRONEER, and what they're used for.

This is mostly outdated (and I don't know if I'll ever update it since I stopped playing awhile back), but you can still read it for fun or a window to the past.

For now, the Basic Resources and Ores & Bars sections are up-to-date.

Overview
Welcome to my Resource Guide! This will cover all (or most) of the resources in the game.

Credit goes to the ASTRONEER Wiki[astroneer.fandom.com] for giving me this information

This guide will attempt to go in-depth about how to get the resources (without using the Mineral Extractor Soil Centrifuge[astroneer.fandom.com] or Trade Platform[astroneer.fandom.com] - but they will be mentioned when applicable)

I'll also organize them based on Basic Resources, Ores & Bars, etc.
Basic Resources
There are 4* basic resources in the game:

Power, Compound, Resin, Organic, and Soil.

*Clay and Quartz can also be considered "basic", but aren't vital to progression or survival

All of them can be made in the Soil Centrifuge[astroneer.fandom.com], draining various amounts of Soil[astroneer.fandom.com] in the process.

Power
Power is more of a mechanic than a resource, but it is still required throughout the entire game. You can gain it from a variety of Generators[astroneer.fandom.com], but the Small Generator[astroneer.fandom.com] is usually the first one you make.

Compound
Compound is the most basic resource in the game, and can be found easily on every planet.

It is used to fabricate almost everything, so always keep some near. I recommend a Medium Storage Silo[astroneer.fandom.com] or Resource Canister[astroneer.fandom.com]
to store this and Resin (since you always find and use so much).

Resin

Resin is also the most basic resource, but it is primarly used to make platforms and modules. You also use it to make Canisters. As with Compound, you'll need quite a bit.

Resin got an appearance overhaul in the Research Update, and used to look like this:

Organic
Organic can be found everywhere, and is gained by mining plantlife. It can be used to make Carbon[astroneer.fandom.com] or fuel the Small Generator[astroneer.fandom.com].

Soil
Soil is used in the Soil Centrifuge (and when building terrain). It must be stored in a small[astroneer.fandom.com] or medium[astroneer.fandom.com] canister.

Clay
As stated above, Clay can be considered a basic resource, but isn't as essential to survival (especially early on). It's really only used to make Ceramic, which can then be used for Drill Mod 1, Wind Turbines, Storages, and more[astroneer.fandom.com].

Quartz
In addition, Quartz can also be considered a basic resource - being used to make Beacons[astroneer.fandom.com] & Sensors[astroneer.fandom.com] - but it's mainly used to make Glass, which can then be used to make Oxygen Tanks[astroneer.fandom.com], Resource Canisters[astroneer.fandom.com], and some crafting stations[astroneer.fandom.com].
Ores & Bars
There are currently 6 (7*) ores in the game:

Laterite, Malachite, Sphalerite, Wolframite, Hematite, Titanite, and Astronium.

All of these can be bought in the Trade Platform[astroneer.fandom.com] with the exception of Astronium[astroneer.fandom.com] (which is instead used as a currency).

Each ore and its bar will be grouped together to make reading easier.

Laterite:

Laterite is used to make Aluminum, and can be found on every planet.

A deposit of Laterite (though they look quite different now)

Aluminum is gained by smelting Laterite (or finding it on wrecks), and can be used to craft most machinery[astroneer.fandom.com].

Malachite:
Malachite is used to make Copper, and can be found on Terran Slyva[astroneer.fandom.com] and Calidor[astroneer.fandom.com].

Copper is used to craft various electronics[astroneer.fandom.com], lights[astroneer.fandom.com], and railways[astroneer.fandom.com].

Sphalerite:
Sphalerite is used to make Zinc, and can be found on Slyva[astroneer.fandom.com] and Desolo[astroneer.fandom.com].

Zinc is used to craft deform tool mods[astroneer.fandom.com], small batteries, and sensors.

Wolframite:
Wolframite is used to make Tungsten, and can be found on Desolo and Calidor.

Tungsten is used to make Medium Generators[astroneer.fandom.com], the Chemistry Lab[astroneer.fandom.com], and Tungsten Carbide[astroneer.fandom.com].

Hematite:
Hematite is used to make Iron, and can be found on Novus[astroneer.fandom.com] and Glacio[astroneer.fandom.com].

Iron is used for most late-game items (like Shredders[astroneer.fandom.com] and XL Platforms[astroneer.fandom.com]), but is mainly used to make Steel[astroneer.fandom.com].

Titanite:
Titanite is used to make Titanium, and can be found on Vesania[astroneer.fandom.com] and Glacio[astroneer.fandom.com].

Titanium is used to make Large Resource Canisters[astroneer.fandom.com], Rail Stations[astroneer.fandom.com], and Titanium Alloy[astroneer.fandom.com].
Crystalline Resources
There are currently 4 Crystalline resources in the game:

Lithium, Titanium, Power and Oxygen

Lithium is used to make Batteries, and can be found on most planets; but some more commonly than others
