When the fleet needs food in large supply, they resort to ground structures designed to grow adequate amounts, even in the middle of a hostile location. Their structures appear to be made of metal, but are actually largely composed of concrete.

The Black "Metal" Hydroponics is a simple structure designed to grow and store food. It is fully functional and comes with a backup fuel supply tank. Why concrete instead of armored concrete? The concrete currently present is several layers thick in some places, and is cheaper overall compared to the armored variant. In other words, stone dust up, iron down.

Why are there only 36 plots? The logic here is that this structure could be made in the middle of hostile territory. Therefore if the structure does come under heavy assault, most of it will decompress once breached, on top of the solar power requirment and the restriction on solar panels...its simply better to built multiple structures alongside one another, rather than having an entire planetary hydroponics operation go down the toilet due to one breach.

UPDATE 6-5-22 - Longstanding texture and lighting issues addressed. Interior lighting changed a bit. Structure much more energy efficient now.
