Description
A Story Driven Mod - Being Updated for 2.3 not yet updated, but still works.

Introduction

Something slumbers in the galaxy, long forgotten. Something that predates the memory of even the oldest Fallen Empire. Something that is starting to stir from its slumber...

Meanwhile an unsuspecting Science Officer in command of a ship on a mission of discovery, will stumble onto a small tablet, of no real value, but the madness, yes the madness lurks in the margins.

About

This is an event pack that I am working on that I will be releasing in parts (I will be updating this base mod with new sections and so on), I will be trying to make any section releases to be as self contained as possible so it doesn't feel overly unfinished. The purpose is to expand the lore and stories that are told in game and I will be aiming to have these events reference other vanilla story lines and perhaps tying them into leviathans like the Infinity Sphere or something to that effect.

NOTE: This is currently the very first part of the larger mod I have planned, but it has enough events and ends at a point to feel complete.

The story so far:

"Research Log 1104

Before the Fallen Empires became spacefaring civilizations, indeed before most sentient life as we know it today came to be, the galaxy was teeming with life, trade, civilizations and wondrous worlds. Suddenly all of that disappeared, and but for a few hideouts sentient life was gone. Interestingly it seems to be some difficulty in placing the Precursors chronologically in relation to this galactic altering event, but some disturbing discoveries are being uncovered. What exactly happened back then may be critical to our future survival... then again we may be just discovering the ruins of our own past demise. Things are completely different and entirely the same. Interesting times when those statements are both accurate simultaneously.

Moving onto the specimen in front of us dimensions are 1 meter by 0.5 meters
Composition is unknown at this time.
Personal thoughts: there is something familiar about this tablet. The text is very familiar to me, but I can't read it or have any recollection of it before..."

"I've heard enough. Nothing makes sense about these ramblings. It's just log after log of the same nonsense! There's no evidence to support some of the more fantastical claims, which are all of them."

"I agree and frankly I can't fathom spending the resources on this so-called scientific expedition!"

"Although what do we have to lose if we firmly ensure that this is nothing more than a hobby to be performed at leisure outside of official duties..."

2.3 Roadmap

  • Transition the rewards for tablet translation quest into relics
  • Rewrite current archaeological planet features into the new archaeology system
  • Retain the archaeological dig site planet feature within the new system, as I personally think it works that an archaeological site would remain a continual source of interest in the empire thus generating archaeologist jobs despite the "story" chain being completed.
Sub-point: have completed archaeology quests on a populated planet spawn the dig site and create archaeology jobs.
  • Complete and release the legendary warrior module - where an ancient warrior from your empire's pre-FTL past is found resting amongst the stars, and the social shockwaves this sends throughout the empire.

New Features:
  • New Job Type: Archaeologist, produced by a new planetary feature: Archaeological Site
  • 5 Possible Events can spawn so far from these features (Planned: to build a larger quest chain or to connect them to the main story)

Features
  • Event Chain that begins to introduce elements of the story
  • Side Event to reference the TNG episode "The Inner Light"

Planned:
  • Development of unique origin-type questlines for the three main forms of governance normal/hive/machine. Megacorps for now I am lumping into the normal governance, but I will be looking at Megacorps specifically at a later date
  • Releasing the first of the questlines for normal governments where an ancient mythical hero of your planet is somehow pinpointed as real? Planning for end of March on this one
  • Further development of

DLC & Compatibility

The intention is to provide an easy grab add-on to the vanilla game, so expect wide compatibility. However, if any errors occur with a major mod let me know in the comments section.

For savegames, at the moment I have double checked my code and it does not have any on_game_start events so it should be compatible. However this will change with the next update at the end of March/early April, at the very least for Non-gestalt Empires.
