Built by the thousands across suburban Australia during the post war boom period to fill massive housing demands, these quintessential houses symbolised suburban living for an entire generation in a similar way to the Hills Hoist rotary clothes line and Victa lawnmower.

Having been built on quarter acre blocks only an hour from city centres, today these houses are slowly being torn down and replaced with more compact town houses or low density apartment buildings to more efficiently use what are now inner suburban blocks.
