gm_Arthwaite_in_Furness

Here is the first map done on my new PC, and we are in the small Cumbrian village of Arthwaite in Furness, that lies on the an outcrop of sandstone on the Furness Peninsula in Cumbria, historically in Lancashire. It is the smaller of the 2 Arthwaites in the county with a population of 350 people, and near to Ulverston and Barrow in Furness. The other Arthwaite is Arthwaite in Westmorland which is near Appleby which is also on the workshop. Includes a day and a Night Version.

Features of the map:
The two village churches - the old one and the new one.
St Mary Magdalene - The old church that lies down a lane from the village, which was first built in the 15th century and served as the parish church until 1868, when the new church was built. It still has its 18th century furnishings and 3 decker pulpit, and a reed organ.
St Matthew - The Victorian Church that was built in 1868, with it's spire and built with the local sandstone. The features contain 4 steel bells, that is unusual for church bells, being cast by Naylor, Vickers & Co of Sheffield, and a pipe organ by the local firm Wilkinson of Kendal.
The Hostel - The old Methodist Chapel which is now a hostel for parties and families, and for education visits.
The Village Shop - Of course the centre of the village, where all the villagers all shop and know eachother.
The Pub - The good ol' local, true Cumbrian style (or Lancashire as the village was historically in) where you can drink for your good life.
