Aroo's Smackdown Files #12: Charlie Haas


A former amateur-wrestler who attended Seton Hall University and would become a two-time Big East Champion, Charlie Haas would debut in the WWE's Smackdown division at the end of 2002 as part of Team Angle alongside another amateur wrestler, Shelton Benjamin, captained by Olympic Gold Medalist and multi-time WWE Champion Kurt Angle. The faction was short-lived, as Angle would fire Haas & Benjamin after 3 successive losses to the makeshift tag team champions Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri (the latter two due to the antics of Eddie Guerrero), though Haas and Benjamin would rename themselves as "The World's Greatest Tag Team", and would end up winning the WWE Tag Team titles back from Guerrero and Tajiri a month later.

The duo would dominate the tag-team scene with their impressive skills until 2004 when Shelton Benjamin would be drafted over to RAW. Haas would remain a tag-team specialist, however, picking up another WWE Tag Team Championship reign with the ever-flamboyant Rico shortly thereafter, as well as obtaining the managerial services of his future wife, Jackie Gayda. Unfortunately for him however, he'd flounder in the midcard scene, with a tag team with Hardcore Holly unable to capture gold, he would be released in mid-2005. In 2006, he would resign with the WWE, and would debut as part of the RAW brand, where in his return match, he'd face off against former tag-team partner Shelton Benjamin.
