(2 - 8) Battle of Ginchy

Ginchy is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Ginchy was at the centre of battle during WW1 (1914-1918) and suffered severe damage as a result. It was used as an observation post by the Germans and was fiercely contested before being overtaken by Irish troops to conclude the Battle of Ginchy.

My personal favorite map - despite that I'll never be able to finish it due to file corruption years ago, and regardless of how few people appreciate it.

I built this with acute attention to historic tactical maps of the region. Distance is often not considered in this game, and time to get your units to target weighs heavy here. Tack on the absolute lack of cover in the outer fields due to the flat nature of this farmland community and you'll find even the simplest of tasks may require complex consideration.

The gargantuan size of the play-field will at times have you ignoring everything your allies are doing on the opposite side. It will occasionally feel like there are two or three separate games going on at the same time, as intended.

I recommend playing with the game-mode and tuning-pack linked in the "The Somme" collection linked above.

This is absolutely not your typical COH2 map. If you expect it to be so, you will be sorely disappointed. It does not play very well with the default game modes, and the common 10x Manpower Tank-Nightmare game will end quickly and uneventfully.

It is intended to be played with scant resources and low population cap. This is for chess - not checkers.
