New Orkney

Description
Welcome to New Orkney! A boreal map inspired by the Scottish Orkney Islands, featuring rugged terrain and a large flat build area split over multiple islands.

Farming, ore and oil resources are plentiful around the edges of the map to allow builders to enjoy the new Industries DLC.

I love playing with road layouts, and so decided to create a map featuring a fully developed highway system with many custom interchanges. I've tried to make the roads as natural and realistic as possible, and added roundabout nodes leading to most build areas to enable the city builder to jump straight in.

I envisage this map being used for a large city build. It has terrain and water features allowing the city builder to use many of the various expansion features like water or aerial transport.

Play Notes:

- Being an island based map, water is all on the same elevation and as such this map is not suitable for Hydroelectric Power Dams. Although water elevation is flat, there is a strong water-flow running north to south through the main river, with a drain in the mouth of the main river to deal with pollution.

- The map has been play tested to ensure all connections work well.

- Bridges have been designed to allow the largest ships to pass underneath without clipping.

- The map is intended to be used with the 25 tile mod. You can use the full 81 tiles if you wish, but buildable land outside of the 25 tiles is minimal.

Hope you enjoy this map!

Something else i wanted to mention. I personally love that the height of the water is very close to the height of the land. I really dislike when theres a large hill or cliff along the water and you end up with absurdly high piers and ugly buildings/terrain on the slope. Since the game handles building on slopes so poorly, i find it crucial that the slopes to water be as minimal as possible, at least on most of the map so i have some area to put piers, harbors etc.

this map is absolutely great. my only minor complaint is the amount of elevated rail. I think if you want to strive for realism it helps to lay the rail out before the highway. i say this because (at least in the U.S.) most towns and cities were built along rail lines, before car travel, so the highways would just go over the rail lines instead of the other way around.
This is just my opinion though, and i still absolutely love the map. There are not nearly enough strong vanilla maps, especially boreal ones.

Really love this map - Thanks a lot! Just finished putting a natural resort park around one of the small lakes, and now both Cims and me (in 1st person mod) enjoy walking tours!

Anyone could recommend some cool 2K or 4K theme to use with this map?
