The Devon Road

Description
Based on the vicinity of Fallingsnow Lake, southwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The terrain data is sourced from terrain.party data. The water is simply based on what fit the best considering the topography. In real life, this area if covered with dense Boreal forest, so with over 300,000 trees, the Unlimited Trees mod is required.

The map is European biome (I designed the map to make a Scandinavia-inspired city) and uses the Realistic V1.4.5 European map theme. The vanilla European LUT was used for screenshots. I recommend Environment Mixer to change the biome and map theme to suit your preferences.

This map contains full connections, however you will need the 81 Tiles mod to access some of them.

Sea connections are located in the water bodies on the bottom right corner of the map, and all through the river on the bottom left corner of the map. They're the only places I could place them. The route in the bottom right corner is not connected straight through to prevent ships from wandering around in the area if you're not using it for shipping.

There is a single rail line serving the 25-tiles area, with a second, separate rail line on the left side of the map that can be used for cargo, to reduce load on the main line. I found it difficult to place the rail lines while also avoiding steep grades, so that's where it ended up. Again, if you use 81 Tiles, that's not going to be too much of a problem to access.

The map has plenty of ore and forestry resources. Oil and fertile land are scarce on this map because they're virtually non-existent in the area this map is based on.

I used Network Extensions 2 highways to make the map more accessible to those without the paid DLCs.

This isn't my first map, but it's the first one I've put enough work into to feel like it's worth sharing. Let me know what you think!

Toybits I think you need Network Extensions 2

I have tried it and was able to get people to move in, and connected passenger and cargo train stations to the rail line and both worked. You might have a mod causing an issue? Make sure you have Network Extensions 2, as the highways I used are from that mod. Without it, you might be able to get into the map but find yourself without any roads, and the highways will largely be missing. I had this issue when I tried to test the map directly from the map editor, as it doesn't load certain mods and assets when you test the map that way.

@Toybits: In the starting tile, there should be a road connection (the little highway spur ending in a loop) and a rail connection (in the opposite corner, enough length of rail for you to place a station beside) to cover those two. Air connections cover most adjacent tiles, so by the time you open a second tile, an airport is possible.

Not all maps have shipping, and this area isn't well above sea level (in real life), but I made the map for myself and wanted a port town, so I added them in as an option but 81 tiles is required due to where the water is located. I would have put ships up the river but it's too narrow.

I'm going to give this map a try and see if I can duplicate your connections problem.

@Toybits It says right in the description: "This map contains full connections, however you will need the 81 Tiles mod to access some of them." Just download the 81 Tiles mod to unlock all the tiles at the start of the game. The Author even linked you to the mod directly.

I'm a bit new to the game so sorry if this is a stupid question. But not sure how to play this when the outisde connections are out of city limits. The population won't rise above 0. Beautiful map so would like to give it a go

thanks in advance for any advice.
