Description
When Shane Douglas signed with NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling in 1993, he had already made stops in WCW and WWF as a babyface.

After winning the NWA World Title Tournament in 1993, Douglas threw down the title and proclaimed that the ECW Heavyweight Championship was now a World title. Throwing down the title is widely recognized as the moment ECW rose to national recognition. Douglas, calling himself "The Franchise," led the newly renamed Extreme Championship Wrestling as his character transitioned to that of an arrogant heel.

Douglas returned to WWF in 1995 briefly to portray a wrestling college dean (Dean Douglas), but went back to ECW shortly after. Douglas moved back to WCW for one last run before the company closed in 2001, then spent a few years as a wrestler and manager in TNA.
