History:
Mycenae gives its name to the Mycenaean civilization, which develops from 1700 BC. J. - C. in continental Greece. For example, ceramic and precious metal vases, amber beads and an electrum funeral mask were found in circle B of the tombs near the acropolis, dated from 1650-1600 BC. It bears witness to the transition from the earliest, relatively modest tombs to Circle A (1600-1500 BC), which yielded an impressive quantity of gold and silver. precious objects. The habitat of the time has not been preserved, the origin of such an influx of wealth can only be the subject of conjecture. Sir Arthur John Evans, discoverer of Knossos, evokes the installation of a Cretan dynasty at Mycenae; it has been suggested, on the contrary, a Mycenaean looting in Crete or the return of mercenaries who have gone to fight the Hyksos pharaohs in Egypt. It seems that the wealth of the Mycenaeans of the time is endogenous, and not due to the outside, and that it is constituted gradually, and not as a result of a particular event. The material and the iconography of the tombs show that Mycenae is then dominated by a warrior aristocracy, whose representatives are above average in size and physical strength, probably thanks to a better diet. It is distinguished by its taste for luxury objects and the importance given to funerary monuments: the tomb called "Aegisthus" tholos required the equivalent of the work of 20 men for 240 days, then a phase of masonry of a whole year. The city is ruled by a monarch called "wa-na-ka" in the Mycenaean language of tablets in linear B, corresponding to the word wanax ("king") of the Homeric language. The disappearance of this civilization is not precisely explained. The causes are both external (earthquakes causing displacement of water sources, raids of new populations) and internal (administration too centralized and too rigid, unable to overcome new crises). The hypothesis of the internal cause is reinforced by the fact that, in the Mycenaean tablets, the name of the magistrate in charge of the administration of the villages is an ancient form from which the title of archon could have been derived (king-priest of Greece archaic). This would mean that the Mycenaean administration disintegrated to the point that citizens no longer recognized local magistrates as the supreme authority. According to Jared Diamond's theory, the shameless exploitation of natural resources could have been the cause of the fall of Mycenaean Greece.

Compatible with Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.
Mycenae city in the greek city list is replaced by Stymphalus.
