Caphtor

City-State Trait: Now You're part of the "Sea People", you can build the Galley and the Quadrireme Unit at half cost with the proper discovery.

City-State Type: Militaristic

History:
Caphtor is a place mentioned in the Bible and its comments. Its inhabitants are called "Caphtorim" or "Caphtorites". They appear in the Book of Genesis (10: 13-14) among the descendants of the Egyptians: "Mizraim begot the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim, the Patrusim, the Casluhim, whence came the Philistines, and the Caphtorim. The name "Caphtor" also appears in relics located in Egypt or in various places like Ugarit or Mari. The Jewish tradition places Caphtor in the vicinity of Pelusium, while other sources evoke Cilicia, Cyprus or Crete. The Caphtorites are part of the "People of the Sea" and are comparable to the Philistines. The Philistines appear in Egyptian sources in the twelfth century BC. BC and are presented as enemies of Egypt from the north, mixed with other hostile populations known collectively as the Sea People. After their clashes with the Egyptians, the Philistines set themselves on the coastal strip of southwestern Cana'an land, that is, a region along the Mediterranean from the present Gaza Strip to Jaffa. Their cities dominated the region until the Assyrian conquest of Teglath-Phalasar III in -732. They are then subject to regional empires, and seem to gradually assimilate. The last mentions of the Philistines date from the second century BC. J. - C., in the first book of the Maccabees.

Compatible with Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.
